A Monkey's Revenge - My Blog

Good news-there's no bad news

I've lost count of the number of times people have told me that newspapers are only ever interested in the bad news. It's not true of course, but the sad thing is that they tend to remember the bad news. I did a good news story last night for The Daily Mirror- how children suffering from cerebral palsy and their families have had the quality of their lives improved by pioneering selective dorsal rhizotomy surgery in america.Cerebral Palsy is a debilitating disease and many of the children would be confined to wheelchairs without this surgery, which enables them to have more mobility.
I photographed several of the children just back from the USA and now able to walk. Eight year old Jack pictured above was one of them and had even been able to run a race during his school sports day last year. It was a pleasure to meet Jack and the other youngsters and their families and for me to be able to truly say that it's not all doom and gloom which makes the headlines.
